Our research activity is carried on in collaboration and with the help of several teams and services around the world.
Collaborating Institutes
The IAPS, in Roma Tor Vergata, is one of the facilities of the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) with theoretical and technological expertise in space missions for planetary sciences and astrophysics. Expertise ranges from experimental gravitation to high energy astrophysics, from planetary science to plasma physics and space weather, from star formation and evolution to that of galaxies and to cosmology.
CGS-ASI, in Matera, is a world-leading center for Earth observation and space geodesy. CGS belongs to the International Association of Geodesy and is member of the International Laser Ranging Service with technologies that go from satellite and lunar laser ranging to very-long-baseline-interferometry, from GNSS positioning to absolute gravimetry. Remote sensing, quantum telecommunications, space debris tracking and finally time and frequency metrology are other important skills which further enrich the centre's activities.
POLITO represents one of the best European Engineering Institutes for education and research and also plays a key role in technological innovation.
Services
The International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) is one of the space geodetic services of the International Association of Geodesy. ILRS provides global satellite and lunar laser ranging data and their related products to support geodetic and geophysical research activities as well as IERS products important to the maintenance of an accurate International Terrestrial Reference Frame.
Funders
The Italian Space Agency (ASI) is a national public body tasked with developing and implementing Italy's space policy in compliance with government guidelines. ASI regulates and coordinates space exploration activities in Italy and represents the Italy's delegation to the European Space Agency. The Agency has become one of the world's most important players in space science, satellite technologies, and the development of satellites to reach and explore the cosmos. ASI plays a leading role both in Europe and in the world and It enjoys a close and constant cooperation with NASA.
